- Title: Assessing the 3D facial anthropometrics of LatinX workers
- Award amount: $15,725
- Abstract: The purpose of this research is to obtain, digitize, quantify, and compare the 3D facial anthropometrics of LatinX individuals to other US citizens. Specific Aim 1: Obtain, digitize, and analyze the 3D facial scans of 2,000 US workers. Specific Aim 2: Compare critical 3D facial anthropometric variables associated with cloth face mask and N95 respirator fit among LatinX and non-LatinX workers.
- Role: This work is being done for my dissertation. I am currently in charge of communicating with Human Solutions and student staff about 3D body scans, software, timeline, and completion of this work.
- Implications of grant on program of research: This funding provided necessary monies to obtain 3D scans, software, and fund student staff to collect facial anthropometrics. This work has already been presented at conferences and showcases, and it is expected that it will provide content for a handful of manuscripts. This work is multi-disciplinary in nature, relying on the skillset of ergonomists, apparel designers, industrial hygienists, epidemiologists, and statisticians. As the co-investigator, I organize with all these scholars for this work to be completed robustly. Given the timeliness of this investigation on respiratory protection, as well as its unique collaborative nature, this research has great impacts on my future program of research which may include future studies about the fit of personal protective equipment and other workplace attire for underrepresented populations.

- Premise: Investigation of Bespoke Tailoring in the United Kingdom
- Award amount: $5000
- Role: I was awarded this funded research opportunity during my junior year of my undergraduate program. With these funds, I traveled to London to interview bespoke tailors on Savile Row. The qualitative data were analyzed, and a presentation was developed and presented to the class of senior undergrads in apparel design. This was a unique opportunity that allowed me to gain research experience during my undergraduate studies.
